ELE502 Power Electronics
Course description for academic year 2024/2025
Contents and structure
The course deals with advanced topics in Power Electronics in:
- Power semiconductors, power diodes, power transistors, power MOSFETs, thyristors, gate turn-off thyristors, insulated gate bipolar transistors, WBG components, etc.
- Snubbere
- Driver circuits
- Cooling system
- Magnetic Components
- Applications of Power Electronics
Learning Outcome
Knowledge:
After completing the course, the student should:
- master the semiconductor theory for power semiconductors.
- understand the structure of power electronic components, snubers, driver circuits.
- Know how to design cooling system and magnetic components for power electronic converters.
Skills:
After completing the course, the student should be able to design, construct and optimize the power electronic converters.
General competence:
The student should build up expertise in the development of power electronic converters.
Entry requirements
Knowledge of ELE119 or similar subjects is required.
Recommended previous knowledge
Knowlege in control systems, electronic, circuit theory, etc.
Teaching methods
Lectures, homework and self-study.
Compulsory learning activities
4 homework must be approved for taking the exam.
Assessment
Oral exam. 30 minutes for each candidate.
Grading scale is A-F where F is fail.
