FE403 Bachelor Thesis in Renewable Energy

Course description for academic year 2024/2025

Contents and structure

The thesis can be themed towards renewable energy, natural sciences or a planning perspective. The thesis will be chosen together with the supervisor and will relate to fields within the department's expertise and capasity. 

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

  • Students will develop an understanding of the most important phases of completing an independent project work.
  • Students will have knowledge of what characterises scientific literature.

Skills

  • Students will be able to complete an independent project work.
  • Students will be able to carry out data collection.
  • Students will know how to conduct analysis and draw scientific conclusions.
  • Students will be able to presents an independent piece of work both in writing and orally using necessary techniques.
  • Students will be able to find scientific literature of high quality in national and international databases.
  • Students will be able to use references, apply citation techniques and conduct source criticism.

Competence

  • After successfully completing the bachelor thesis the candidate can carry out independent assessments and evaluate important energy, economic, societal and planning themes. The candidate will know how to define aims and objectives, accurately describe methods, find and utilise scientific literature in a correct manner, including source criticism, and will be able to provide a balanced presentation of the chosen topic. The candidate will know how to structure and present a scientific report and can communicate the main points of a scientific report in a clear and understandable way (written and orally).

Entry requirements

The student must have completed 90 ECTS of the course in the bachelor`s program in renewable energy or equivalent in order to be assigned an assignment and supervisor

Teaching methods

Independent student group work with supervision from one or more teachers. 2-3 students write their thesis together.

Bachelor seminar

Compulsory learning activities

Forming of groups of 2-3 students in each group, and signing of collaboration agreement between the group members (autumn semester)

Participation at bachelor seminar (spring semester)

Oral group presentation of the thesis prior to submission (spring semester)

Assessment

Bachelor Thesis.

Grading scale A-F, where F represents a fail.
