Re6-2013 Introduction to practical placement in the tourism industry

Introduction to practise in the tourism industry should prepare students for practise later in their studies and working life The course deals with varous issues and is practically oriented with simulations, observations and fieldwork. The aim of the course is to make the students safte until he/she has to spend time in the business world and equip them with different tools to deal with diferent situaations.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

The student must

Acquire knowledge of research and development work within the operation of accommodation, restaurant, transport and attractions/activity-companies.

Acquire knowledge about how to handle events and crisis situations in working life.

Acquire knowledge about the historiy, traditions uniqueness and place in society of various industries in the tourism industry.

Acquire knowledge about different service guarantees in different industries.

Acquire knowledge about the use of technology and innovation in travel and thus an understanding of how this happens in varous industries.

Able to update their knowledge within the operation of various inudstries.

Skills

The student must be able to

Set up learning objectives to carry out Re6-2006 practise in tourism.

Be abele to solve relevant cases from the tourism industry, both individually and in groups

Find, assess and refer to specialist material that addresses issues and solutions for the various parts of the tourism industry, such as accommodation, transport, restaurants and attractions.

Carry out general and relevant measures within health and safty.

Find relevant tools to use in the operational purposes of tourism businesses.

General competence:

The student has:

Insight into what is expected in work situation in the various parts of the tourism product. Ability to ask professional questions that may develop the students themselves, fellow students, teachers and stakeholders from working life. Insight into potential professioanl and professional ethical issues related to the development, operation and management of resposible tourism.
