SYKDF360P Practice Study, Professional Management, Service Development and Innovation
Course description for academic year 2024/2025
Contents and structure
The module is a guided practice study where the student is to acquire insight into the nurse's role related to professional leadership, service development, and innovation in healthcare. This insight should contribute to being able to critically assess, prioritize, and justify nursing and organizational measures both at an individual and system level. The student should be able to identify the need for interdisciplinary collaboration in services, professional leadership and coordination, documentation, and information transfer to maintain and ensure quality in services. The student shall utilize this knowledge in a quality improvement, enhancement, or innovation project.
The module can be conducted in either municipal or specialist healthcare services.
The workload of the subject is estimated at 202.5 hours. Of these hours, 150 hours are related to direct patient-related work. The remaining hours are related to mandatory learning activities and self-study. There is a requirement of 90% participation in practice.

Compulsory learning activities
The following compulsory learning activities must be completed before students can work with patients:
1: Mandatory participation in lessons preparing students for practice, skills training and simulation. 90% attendance is compulsory.
In the case of absence from cumpulsory learning activities, the same rules apply as for absence during practical training according to the regulations relating to programmes of study and examinations at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
Assessment
Clinical practice is considered passed/failed after a final assessment of the candidate’s performance during clinical practice. To pass, students must have reached their learning outcomes and met the required 90% attendance.
Continuation of practice if failed: If a student does not pass, he/she will need to do the practice again, together with the following year’s class.
