SYKI112 Maternal Health in a Global Perspective
Course description for academic year 2024/2025
Contents and structure
This module provides knowledge, skills and general competence in health-promoting and preventive work within maternal and newborn health, from both a national and a global public health perspective. Furthermore, this module will contribute to increased insight into different ways of organizing the maternal health care system within in two different countries

Entry requirements
- Student at a partner institution which Bachelor of Nursing at HVL has an agreement with
- 60 ECTS / first year of nursing studies
- Minimum level B2 in English (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR)

Compulsory learning activities
The following coursework must be completed before students can sit the final examination:
- Participation in Collaborative Online International Learning(COIL) with two synchronous virtual exchange meetings. Participation in group discussions and tasks during meetings.
- Group assignment: Create a proposal on how maternity health care services can be organized to meet the needs of the community.
Compulsory learning activities are valid for four semesters. In the case of absence from cumpulsory learning activities, the same rules apply as for absence during practical training according to the regulations relating to programmes of study and examinations at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
Assessment
Oral exam
Individual exam. Presentation in a seminar where the other students are present. Two days before the exam, the students submit the presentation (Canvas). 15 minutes presentation (PowerPoint, poster, video) related to the learning outcomes.
Grading scale
The grading scale used is Passed / Not passed.
New exam
Students who fail (Not passed) will have a new oral exam.
