Course description for academic year 2024/2025
Contents and structure
In practical project management, candidates collaborate in teams to execute a project during the semester. There is an emphasis on candidates addressing real-world issues with a stakeholder-oriented approach and focusing on the needs of the users. The subject is designed to enhance the candidates' competence and skills in the development, organisation, and management of real projects.
Candidates will receive a comprehensive introduction to the various phases of projects and teamwork, including theoretical instruction and an introduction to concepts, methods, and tools. Practical challenges encourage creativity and a solution-oriented approach. Candidates develop project management skills through the hands-on application of theory, tools, and methods. It is emphasised that candidates should be able to discuss and reflect at an academic level. Additionally, candidates are expected to develop and be able to reflect on their own teamwork skills, as well as practice oral presentations.

The candidate will after completing and passing this course have:

- The significance of projects, value creation, and project success
- Project definition, as well as selection of implementation strategy and planning

- Leadership in projects, as well as team and team development
- Handling uncertainty, including identification, analysis, prioritization, and development of measures to address uncertainty factors

- Learning and innovation in projects, as well as sustainability and ethics in project work

Skills:
- Describe theories and models for project management and apply them in practice
- Use Excel or equivalent to develop plan documents
- Select and apply relevant analyses and models for a given project
- Communicate relevant professional knowledge to various stakeholders, both in writing, verbally, and visually, including the preparation of plan documents and reports
- Reflect on one's own professional practice
General competence:
- Collaborate in a team to create a common product
- Critically reflect on one's own professional practice and development
- Exchange and convey viewpoints and experiences with others in project work to contribute to the development of best practices

Teaching methods
Student-active forms of teaching inspired by project-based, problem-based and case-based learning. Presentations, based on an active and dialogue-based learning model, discussion in teams and guidance.
Compulsory learning activities
The following mandatory requirements must be completed as a team and approved in order to be eligible for examination:
- Status report
- Final report
Approved requirements are valid for the examination semester, and in the following semester.
Assessment
There are two oral examinations, as follows:
- A progress report, where the team presents the status of the project work. This examination is scheduled for the first half of the semester.
- A final report, where the team presents the work on the project, reflections, experiences, and the learning they have gained throughout the semester. This examination is scheduled for the end of the semester.
Each of the examinations has a duration of 30 minutes and consists of a presentation section and a discussion section.
Each examination counts for 50% of the final grade in the course. The grading scale is A-F, where F corresponds to fail.
The examination is conducted in teams, and all participants in the team must be involved during the examination. If the candidate wishes to improve the grade, both the assignments and the examinations must be retaken the next time the course is offered
