Course description for academic year 2017/2018
Contents and structure
The course centers on knowledge development and questions of method in relation to clinical health and caring science. The course centers on general ontological, epistemological, methodological and ethical guidelines that influence the research process. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods will be discussed. The course is closely linked to the student's own master's thesis.
Learning Outcome
- has knowledge of central trends within theory of science
- has knowledge of central research methods within research pertaining to health and caring science
- is able to identify scientific knowledge and how it is developed
- has knowledge of the phases in a research project
- has comprehensive knowledge of research ethical mentalities, guidelines and legislation
- is able to employ different concepts of knowledge, methods and research ethics
- is able to formulate relevant problems for discussion
- is able to relate problems to relevant methods
- is able to choose relevant theory according to topic and problem for discussion
- is able to work out a relevant research design
- is able to evaluate the quality of research literature
- is able to plan a limited research project
- has comprehensive knowledge of the connection between philosophy of science, choice of research question and choice of scientific method
- is able to analyse published studies in terms of methodical questions, interpretation, understanding, validity and relevance

Teaching methods
Lectures, tutorials, seminars/net meetings based on dialogue, teamwork with proposals and written assignments on campus and/or digitally.
