Course description for academic year 2017/2018
Contents and structure
Through practice training the student will be given the opportunity to try out and further develop their role as a teacher.
During the second year of study the student will have 150 hours of supervised practice, included 20 hours of field practice in another type of school.
Observation- and supervised practice must be in line with the didactic profile for which the student has been accepted.
The practice placement location must be approved by the University College and may include year group 5-10 of lower secondary school, upper secondary school or vocational studies in secondary and adult education institutions.
In addition to classroom/workshop teaching and observation the student may participate in work such as staff and faculty meetings, thematic work, meetings with parents and pupils, excursions, etc.
Field practice must be linked to the academic content of School in Society 2, e.g. studying youth culture, teaching methods, academic levels or motivation for learning in lower secondary school. The student can also teach in subjects in which that they have an academic background in, or work experience.
Learning Outcome
Knowledge:
- has broad knowledge of youth culture and youth development and learning in different social and multicultural contexts
- is able to chart and evaluate pupils'/apprentices' development level, competence, interests, learning strategies and other learning requirements as the basis for individual learning
Skills:
- is able to apply their academic, educational, didactic and technological knowledge
- masters relevant work processes, tools, techniques and forms of expression and is able to reflect on their own professional practice and adjust this with supervision
- is able to plan, implement, evaluate and manage teaching
- is able to critically reflect on their own learning based on research and experience-based knowledge
General competence:
- have insight into relevant academic and professional ethical issues and be able to communicate key subject matter in Norwegian, both verbally and in writing, and through other forms of documentation
- is able to inspire pupils'/apprentices' learning, professional pride and professional identity based on academic insight, commitment and communication abilities

Teaching methods
The student will conduct observations, be responsible for planning and implementation of teaching and participate in evaluation work in collaboration with the practical supervisor. The student will participate in the meetings and collaboration forums held at the practical location.
The student will also participate in supervision meetings with HSH and the practical teacher
Compulsory learning activities
The student must have completed practice in collaboration with an approved practical teacher and subject teacher and obtained approval of the practice plan and practice report.
