Reviewing academic literature is an essential part of all research. While a dialogue with other researchers (their results, methods, theories) can be said to be a defining feature of all academic writing, we need also from time to time to summarise and appraise what others have done before us separately, either as a part of an article or book, or as a separate publication. This is what is commonly called a "review".

We normally distinguish between different types of reviews, the most frequent ones being "systematic review", "scoping review" and "narrative review". This session will explain more in detail the differences between them. We will put a particular focus on their purposes, so that it hopefully becomes easier for you to choose and write the right type, i.e. the type that suits your research project best.

Today's presenteres all work in the library with searching, reviewing and/or writing. In order to prepare, please take a look at what PhD on Track has to say about reviewing.
